INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURE

Bachelor's Degree course (5 years, full-time)

  • Architectural Design
  • Urban Planning

Architecture was the one discipline that gave origin back in 1967 to Sverdlovsk Institute of Architecture, a school of higher architectural education in the Urals. Since then, the school has evolved into the Ural State University of Architecture, Design, and Art, a higher education institution providing focused specialized courses in architecture and planning, design, and fine and applied arts.

Historically and conceptually, USUAA is an heir to VKhUTEMAS, a center for three major movements in the 1920s in avantgarde art and architecture: constructivism, rationalism, and suprematism, and a hotbed of advanced ideas in teaching methods combining art and engineering in an innovative learning track.

USUAA has retained the best of thinking from that period of architecture and art history. As a student of architecture, you’ll be able to acquire advanced knowledge and develop skills not only in architecture, engineering, planning, architectural physics, history of architecture, but also in drawing, painting, sculpture, etc. USUAA’s graduates are able to easily change tracks in their career between architecture, art, and design.

Our graduates can be found practicing architecture in various countries around the world, and feedback from them shows that they often surpass their foreign peers in architectural creativity and employability thanks to their fundamental background that integrates architecture, engineering, and arts. So you can be sure of a successful career in architecture as a freelance, a member of a creative consultancy team, or an in-house designer.

WHAT YOU’LL STUDY

You'll start off on your Bachelor degree course in Architecture by doing Architectural Design Basics for two years and develop skills in architectural design basics, composition modeling, spatial composition, building structures, surveying in the field, design methodology, etc. Experimenting with forms and shapes and compositions in simple design projects (children’s playground, a detached house, etc.), you’ll unleash your creativity and get prepared for continuing your course for another three years at Architectural Design under the guidance of experienced practicing architects, engineers, art historians and theory professors. These years will be devoted to acquiring actual design skills enhanced by the previous years of flight of imagination and creativity. The final output will be a graduate diploma project, often being a real-life design challenge.

In the course of Urban Planning, you’ll study Architectural Design, Theory of Urban Planning and District Zoning, Architecture and Urban Planning Law, Landscaping, Composition, Transport, Site Development, Amenities, etc.
